Design Registration

Registering your logo as a design in the UK or EU is possible if the logo is less than a year old.  Design registration can last for a maximum of 25 years (renewable every five years).   It is an effective way to protect logos.

Once you have a registered design, if someone else uses the same logo you need not prove they copied your logo (which is necessary when relying solely on copyright).

Although it is not necessary to register copyright for the creator of a logo to have copyright protection, in practice it is important to ensure you have evidence of the date of creation of the logo, so that if any disputes arise you are able to prove you were using the logo before the other party began using their logo.  For more information on how to strengthen your copyright protection email us.
